Al bijna 60 jaar is Earl Young de hartslag en hartslag van de soulmuziek in Philadelphia en de drummer op letterlijk honderden sessies (hits) die teruggaan tot 1964, en de man die in die tijd zoveel van de hitlijst van de City Of Brotherly Love heeft voortgestuwd. Earl Young, drummer en bass zanger van de legendary Trammps en drummer van MFSB het huisorkest van Gamble & Huffs Philadelphia International Records. Earl Young, uitvinder van ''Four on the floor'', het disco ritme waar de Philly sound mee groot is geworden en wat toegepast is in bijna alle disco hits van de 70's. Het bijzondere is dat de drum sessies bij Philadelphia International Records altijd in één take werden opgenomen, niets werd toen 10 keer ingespeeld, dit maakt Earl Young tot een unieke drum specialist. In de jaren 70 is Earl Young op elke Philly en Salsoul hit te horen op drums, hits van o.a. The O'Jays, Archie Bell & The Drells, The Three Degrees, Billy Paul, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, The Intruders, Jean Carn, Jerry Butler, Loleatta Holloway, Salsoul Orchestra, MFSB, The Spinners, First Choice, The Mighty Clouds Of Joy en natuurlijk zijn eigen band The Trammps.
